As a result of living in England as a child, I became fascinated with the British royal family. This enduring interest led me to be among the first to see the Oscar winning movie, The King’s Speech. Now I have just finished reading the book, The King’s Speech, by Mark Logue.
This book is captivating on several levels. While telling of King George’s V1’s struggle with stuttering, it provides a look at English life and society during the first half of the 20th century with emphasis on the period of the Second World War. Interwoven in the story is the account of the very close friendship between King George V1 and his speech therapist, Lionel Logue. Much of the book is taken from the detailed diaries of Lionel Logue who died in 1953.
If you loved England, royalty, and a story of triumph over adversity then this book is for you. (Kathy Sale)
